Smart materials are the new material group used in technology. They are materials that respond to physical stimuli by deformation, chemistry, or energy conversion. There is no academic and commercial classification system in the field of smart materials yet. Smart materials can be divided into Piezoelectric materials, shape memory alloys (SMA), magnetostrictive materials, and chromic materials. In our daily life, we can use many smart materials. At home, at work, even while walking on the road. For example, it can be used in the cars we drive, lighters, airplanes, watches, and even the clothes we wear. Apart from its daily use, it is used in architectural and engineering fields. Smart materials, which have started to be used in various fields such as space and aerospace engineering, automotive engineering, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering, will come to the fore in many areas in the future. In this paper, the usage areas of smart materials in our daily life and industry are examined. These are: smart materials and their uses were examined and collected in a single article. In the content of this study, basic information and important features of smart materials are mentioned. In the last part of the study, the results of some studies on these materials were given. As a result of the studies, it has been observed that smart materials are used in engineering, industry, architectural structures, and textiles. This article is hoped to help increase the use of smart materials.
