SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF A NI-BASED MOF FOR EFFICIENT REMOVAL OF MALACHITE GREEN DYE FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS

Malachite green (M.G) is a widely used dye in many industries. However, discharging this dye into the environment can cause severe health and environmental problems because of its toxic and carcinogenic properties. Consequently, treatment processes are needed to remove it from water. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been a class of materials of great interest in recent years. These materials have unique properties such as high surface area, porous structures, and tunable surfaces. This material, which has different usage areas, has started to be used frequently as an adsorbent in the adsorption process. In this study, Ni-based MOF was synthesized and this material was used to remove M.G dye, one of the water pollutants. MOF samples were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Dye adsorption efficiencies were investigated under different parameters such as pH, time, and concentration. Pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order kinetic models were used for kinetic model studies. For isotherm studies, Langmuir and Freundlich models were used to obtain information about the adsorption process. The kinetic and isotherm models were found to be pseudo-second order and Freundlich models, respectively. In this study, the removal performance and potential of Ni-based MOF for malachite green removal studies were demonstrated.
