SUSTAINABLE GREEN BUILDINGS: CURRENT STATUS AND FUTURE AGENDA

In recent years, green buildings are one of the most studied subjects in terms of energy efficiency all over the world. The green building that provides a healthy habitat built on the cultural and architectural heritage in construction while ensuring conservation of natural resources is considered to be an environmental component, as the green building materials are manufactured from local eco-sources. They are obtained by greening works in different parts of the building such as floor, roof, vertical systems, covering, balcony, and garden. Thanks to these systems designed with certain standards, a sustainable and environmental protection against energy consumption is taken. They provide not only the amount of energy consumed for heating, cooling, ventilation, but also an optimization of water consumption and oxygen production. The biggest goal of the green buildings is to provide maximum benefit from natural light as well as solar and wind energy. There are many studies and researches on this subject in the academy. This study is a literature review in which academic studies related to green buildings are analyzed. Academic studies are classified according to the types of green systems studied. In addition, green roofs and vertical green systems were introduced. As a result, it is analyzed the effects of green systems on energy usage and energy comfort in a general way. The methods and programs used are presented and it is aimed to guide the next studies for metedology.
