ANALYSIS OF KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT MODELS USED IN CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

Many industries around the world have adapted to evolving technology by changing and improving their structures. Today, various types of structures with different functions contribute to an increase in the diversity and number of project participants. The increase in the number of participants leads to a proliferation of input information, making it difficult to control the flow of information between people/disciplines and increasing management needs. In working systems where communication is facilitated through written, verbal, mobile, and online platforms in general project design and construction processes, creating a standard document for different communication methods has become essential for communication power. In addition to recording and sharing information, it has also become essential to create a copy for each document. Moving collaborative working methods to digital platforms in highly participatory environments has strengthened the need for information and document management. The management of information sharing between individuals/disciplines at all stages of the project, from planning to operation, is vital for accurate information flow and communication. Establishing a common language between all relevant individuals/disciplines is essential for effective communication. In particular, the management of tacit and explicit knowledge, which underlies knowledge types, is a factor that directly affects project success and is inherent in the collaborative environment in which all knowledge management activities take place. In this context, the management models developed and used by the construction industry in response to the increasing knowledge management needs are analyzed. The knowledge management model approaches in different countries and the resulting models are compared in terms of their operational structure and objectives. The processes, characteristics, and management techniques of construction projects and their effects on knowledge management practices are investigated. ORCID NO: 0009-0005-6067-6656
