Heat recovery studies largely investigated in various industries, and the household appliances sector does not have any difference. Heat recovery increases energy efficiency by reusing waste heat, reducing operational costs, and minimizing environmental impact. In this study heat pump tumble dryer were investigated.
In refrigeration industry capillary tube suction line heat exchanger (ctslhx) is well known for years and largely investigated by researchers and with this kind of secondary heat exchangers can recover from ten percent to up to thirty percent heat from suction line. However, it is important to note that there has been almost no research conducted on heat pump tumble dryers.
To investigate the similar structure in heat pump system, new pipe set were designed, condenser outlet pipe and evaporator outlet pipe were brazed together, and this brazed area covered with insulation. With this modification, compressor inlet was heated via condenser residue heat, and condenser outlet was cooled via evaporator outlet.
One-dimensional simulations were conducted for current and revised pipe set. In the context of a one-dimensional simulation, the structure created with the new pipe set yielded highly promising results. After, these one-dimensional simulations prototype machines were created. Energy consumption of current production and modified dryers were tested according to IEC 61121:2012 standard, and approximately five percent energy reduced for full load and ten minutes cycle time is shortened.
