As technology advances, the need for more efficient materials increases. More efficient materials can be produced by adding different properties to known materials. There are various methods that can add additional properties to materials. Modifications of the lattice structures is one of these methods. By making changes in the lattice structures of materials, how the materials will respond to the force can be calculated. Thus, these structures can be used in desired areas. Structures that have negative Poisson ratio can be obtained by modifying the lattice structure designs and these are called auxetic structures. They shrink in compression and expand in tension, due to their negative Poisson ratio unlike normal structures.
In this study, a lattice structure was formed by combining unit cells consisting of 4pointed stars. The stresses on the lattice structure and the Poisson ratio were calculated by finite element analysis. In order to reduce stresses and obtain a stronger structure, geometric improvements were made and a mathematical model of the improved geometry was created. When the geometry was reanalyzed after the application of the new mathematical model, it was observed that there was a significant reduction in the stress regions. On the other hand, while geometric improvements were made, the mass was kept constant and it was presented that there was no increase in the Poisson ratio of the lattice structure.
As a result, it has been concluded that stress on the structure can be reduced by applying geometric improvements with special mathematical formulas on auxetic structures.
