With the development of bioengineering, there is an effective use of a drug/active substance. It is possible to add active ingredients to the controlled release mechanism or to be used as an implant coating material, and it is promising. For this reason, essential oils are one of the materials planned to be used in drug delivery systems that will be newly developed for cancer treatment. Essential oils have traditionally been used for aromatherapy in the treatment of all kinds of diseases for years, and in recent years, they have been used as a complementary therapy in patients undergoing cancer treatment. Apart from aramotherapy, essential oils are used in a variety of ways and can be integrated into drug delivery systems. The cytotoxic effect of essential oils was investigated by applying essential oils from lavender, sage and rosemary to colorectal (DLD-1) and lung (H1299) cancer cells. In the light of the data obtained, 10 µl applied lavender oil has a toxic effect on both lung and colorectal cancer cells, while it has a viability-enhancing effect on healthy L929 fibroblast cells. While rosemary oil was toxic in DLD-1 cells, it did not show toxic effects in H1299 lung cancer cells. As a result; The use of essential oils has the potential to be used as medicine outside of traditional aromatherapy.
