ANALYSIS OF CONNECTING ROD BEARING LUBRICATION CHARACTERISTICS FOR SINGLE-CYLINDER HYDRA RESEARCH ENGINE

The connecting rod journal bearing lubrication characteristics performance of the Ricardo Single Cylinder Hydra Research Engine was investigated under three different engine speeds (1500, 3000 and 4500 rev/min). In this study Ricardo Suite software was used. It was investigated the maximum oil film pressure, the minimum oil film thickness, maximum eccentricity ratio, hydrodynamic power loss, friction torque and oil flow rate on the dynamically loaded connecting rod bearing vary as the speed increases. Variations of the parameters affecting journal bearing lubrication characteristics performance with respect to the increase in engine speed are shown table form and graphically. The minimum oil film thickness of the connecting rod bearing at lower shell 1500 rev/min is 6,4359 µm. The position with the minimum oil film thickness is at the crank angle of 326o and the load angle of 91o. The minimum oil film thickness of the connecting rod bearing at lower shell 3000 rev/min is 6,2986µm. The position with the minimum oil film thickness is at the crank angle of 318o and the load angle of 91o and The minimum oil film thickness of the connecting rod bearing at lower shell 4500 rev/min is 5,3829 µm. The position with the minimum oil film thickness is the same at 3000 rev/min. It was observed that the oil film thickness decreased with the increase in engine speeds. The results show that the minimum oil film thickness decreases gradually with increasing of the bearing clearance of the main bearing, but the maximum oil film pressure gradually increasing.
