UTILIZATION OF GLOBAL NAVIGATION SATELLITE SYSTEM (GNSS) TECHNIQUES IN STRUCTURAL HEALTH MONITORING (SHM)

It is of utmost importance to monitor the movements of engineering structures such as bridges, dams, towers, and high-rise buildings to detect potential hazards promptly, ensure structural health reliability, and manage disasters effectively. The safety of buildings directly affects the lives and property of people. Structural integrity can be compromised due to various factors such as substandard construction quality, overload, earthquakes, and other external factors. Continuous monitoring of these structures is crucial to ensure the safety of the occupants and the structure itself. To achieve this, the responses of structures to the forces they are subjected to must be analyzed using various measurement devices, and measurements should be taken to identify irregular behaviors and activate emergency plans. One widely used technology for determining displacements in engineering structures is the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) due to its high accuracy and ease of use. This study focuses on examining the use of GNSS measurement methods in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) studies and provides an overview of how GNSS technology has been used for SHM over the past few decades. The paper summarizes the significance and progress of Real-Time Kinematic (RTK), and Precise Point Position (PPP) for dynamic monitoring. It also includes a comparison of these technologies.
