Over the last three decades, nano-particles have been continuously applied to cosmetics and the skincare products. By the use of nanoparticles in the cosmetic products, the release of the ingredients can be controlled better. In addition, the physical stability and the efficacy of these products are known to be higher. Another critical issue related to the nano-sized skincare products is that they are able to penetrate rapidly to the skin resulting in active transport of ingredients. These advantages are obtained by making use of the larger surface area of these nano-sized ingredients. Especially ZnO-based powder cosmetic products cover the highest percentage in comparison to other zinc oxide cosmetics. It is possible to provide strong sun protection by the use of mineral active ingredients such as TiO2 and ZnO and these oxides are commonly present in the commercial sunscreens. The best SPF value of these minerals is obtained when they are produced on the nanometer scale. Nano-particles are allowed to be used in the cosmetic products only if they can meet the standards dictated by the regulations. The properties of the cosmetic products are influenced by a number of parameters. In the present study, relevant data on the surface area and a number of physiochemical properties of these products have been presented.
