THE INFLUENCE OF ROLLING RESISTANCE ON VEHICLE'S PERFORMANCE

Energy-saving vehicles are facing a huge demand in the markets as ecology has become a real issue globally. In the other hand quality and good performance are also important aspects of today s passenger car. Tires are becoming more resistant to damage and handle the road better. But the main focus is still being put on a better energy saving. Many government regulations were set to increase the contribution of tires to passenger vehicle fuel economy. The interest of vehicle fuel economy isn’t new as both consumers and government in fuel economy was galvanized during the mid-1970s. There are several ways to increase vehicle fuel economy such as reducing the loads that the vehicle must overcome and increasing the efficiency of the engine, transmission, and other components that generate and transfer power to the axles. Since the 1970s, the emphasis given to some means has fluctuated according to government`s regulations, market needs, technology cost and capabilities. Low Rolling Resistance contributes in low energy consumption as 0.25L is saved in every 100km[1]The number might not be so interesting but the effect is seen once the distance is calculated in an annual basis. The work related to Rolling Resistance is often based on finite elements and modelling. In this study a modelling with Matlab will be used. In this study, the effects of specified parameters on rolling resistance power loss have been investigated. At first the mathematical equations of temperature, tire inflation pressure, camber angle and tire radius were identified then used in a Software model plotting.
